Denbies 10 Mile Race Day Instructions

***COURSE UPDATE***

Alan has been round the Denbies 10 route this morning (Tuesday 15th).  The going is mostly good (surprisingly) but there are a few muddy/slippy patches.  Notably the bit from Ranmore Church to the Ranmore Road and the North Downs Way from Steers Field for a mile or so.  Unless conditions change significantly in the next few days trail shoes will be preferable if you have them.

The race day instructions for the Denbies 10 are now available to download here.  If you are intending to come along to the event please read them carefully as they contain an important safety message regarding a cycle event being held on the same day.

Are you entered, check here?  There are entries on the day available for £20.  Registration opens at 8.30am.

Don't forget that a 2.5k (1 lap) and 5k (2 laps) fun run is also available.  Scheduled start time of 12 noon, entries on the day are £5, registration opens at 8.30am and will close 15 minutes before the event starts.  Under 8's are permitted to run but must be accompanied by an adult.

We hope to see you there...

Alan and Nicky

Badger does the Apprentice

Here at Events to Live we often get reports of Badger t-shirts travelling far and wide.  This is the first time we've ever seen one vying for a share of Lord Alan Sugars business partnership offer.

Seen on the Apprentice on the 18th April 2012 is the infamous t-shirt:

And here's what it looks like on Alan:

So, where is the strangest place you've seen a badger t-shirt?  Send your comments and pictures to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Sunshine at the Spitfire

Four weeks ago Alan and I flew out to New Zealand to satisfy a dream of competing in Ironman New Zealand.  The idea started on our honeymoon there in 2004 when we drove past Lake Taupo (the IMNZ venue) on the way to Napier.  It took seven years but since Alan retired from his real job and both of us celebrate special birthdays this year it seemed the perfect opportunity.

Spitfire and Tempest are ready for takeoff

With just under a week to go, entries for these events are now closed.  They will re-open again on race day.  The Spitfire will cost £25 on the day, Tempest £20 on the day.  Please note, we only have limited Tempest entries so please get there early to ensure you get a space.

You can download the full Spitfire entry list here.

You can download the full Tempest entry list here.

You can download race day instructions here.

Please make sure you read the full instructions prior to coming along.  They contain lots of important information including how to get there.  SATNAVS will direct you to the wrong gate and we have had lots of complaints from people getting lost after following their SATNAV.

We are very short of marshals, if you have someone coming along to support who can help out then please let us know.  Volunteer Page

We are on our Hols...

We are off on a well deserved holiday.  Plans for the Spitfire and Tempest are well on track and will be fully completed on our return.  Our absence may mean you don't hear from us for a little while.  Do not panic, everything is in hand.  We may be a little slow in replying to your e-mails and please accept our apologies for that.  Rest assured the cogs are still whirring while we are away.

See you on our return...

Nicky and Alan

Bookham Snow Photos

Sussex Sport Photography very kindly turned up for the Bookham 10k training run on Sunday 5th February 2012 and took some superb photos.  Have a look at Surrey (and the runners of course) looking stunning in the snow here.  All photos are available for purchase.

New Bookham 10k Date Announced

Thank you for your patience.  We are delighted to confirm the Bookham 10k will now take place on Sunday 27th May at 10am.  With many thanks to the National Trust, Surrey Wildlife Trust, Fine Fettle, Powerbar, Run to Live, Polesden Lacey Infants School and Surrey Highways for accommodating our requests so quickly.

This event is supported by and raises money for Downs Syndrome Association.

So, what happens now...

Firstly, you need to tell us if you want to transfer your entry to the re-scheduled date.  If that is not an option, then we can offer you an entry into either Denbies 10 mile on Sunday 20th May or Polesden Lacey 10k on Sunday 24th June.  If you cannot make any of those dates then you may donate your entry fee to charity.

In exceptional circumstances we may be able to offer you a refund.  An exceptional circumstance would be living a significant distance away from the area.  We will be contacting you via e-mail to find out your preference.

Huge thanks to all of you for your continued support of Events to Live and we hope to see you all soon.

Instant Karma

Making the decision to cancel an event 24 hours before the start was one of the most difficult decisions we have faced during our time with Events to Live.  But not the most surprising.  With nearly every event we organise we seem to have some weather crisis.  Alan practically sells his soul on a weekly basis to have good weather for the Beginners and Improvers groups we run though Run to Live.  It's only natural that we'd eventually pay the price.  It was appropriate that a metaphorical dump of Karma came back to us as an actual dump of snow at an event.  It seems you can't mess with nature.

Bookham Event Cancelled

It is with regret that we announce the decision to cancel the Bookham 10k scheduled for Sunday 5th February.  You will have all no doubt seen the weather forecast and weather warnings issued by the Met Office for the next 24 hours.  Although we have no snow yet and they do not know how much or where it will fall, the terms of our insurance ask us to consider foreseen risk and take 'reasonable' precaution against it.

There are entries on the day for £20.

There is also a 2.5k Fun Run starting at 10.10am, cost £5.  You can register on the day for this event from 8am.  Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

No Mountains in the Molehills

I was scrabbling around in the dark at a time when the only bird ‘song’ came from the hooting owls.  The mission was to find an orange chalk mark on the floor indicating the turnaround point at the top of Ranmore Common.  It didn’t help that the forgotten head torch was lying on the dining room table leaving the lighting job to a backup Petzl e-lite, an always resident in case of emergencies in my back pack.  The light was fabulous from this little illuminate although I still had to adopt an inspector gadget stance to get the light near the floor where it was required.

Molehills are go

We are ready to go for the Molehills in 2011.  You can download the race day instructions here.  Team entries are listed here and individual entries here.

We've ordered great weather for the weekend (said with fingers crossed) and so we should have a much warmer day than last year.  If you are wondering there are individual entries on the day but NO entries for teams unfortunately.  If you have any last minute questions then please contact us via e-mail info @ eventstolive dot co dot uk or 07952 349 226.

See you soon

Badger Comes Out to Play

While a formidable world champion was on her way to a fourth world title in what was probably the most exciting ladies triathlon race in Hawaii for some time, the Surrey Badger race director and his (long suffering) wife were having a sleepless night mentally preparing for their own big day.

Writing this race report in my head in the few days leading up to the Badger, it struck me that sometimes we focus on the negatives in the race report.  There is no doubt that race organisation has its share of stressful moments and gawd knows this one had a few too.  But instead of dwelling on this, I thought I'd share with you the highlights of what was an amazing day.

POLESDEN LACEY 10k, Great Bookham, Surrey

24 June 2012, 9.30am, 1 lap

Polesden Lacey is a beautiful 1,400 acre estate with stunning views across the Surrey Hills.  It was owned from 1906 by the famous Edwardian hostess, Mrs Greville, who entertained royalty, politicians and the cream of society.  The house, with its notably opulent interiors and priceless collection is waiting to be explored.  The house is now also the administrative centre for the National Trust.

Badger Set to Go

Tees are tried on, beer is bought, the gels are got and we're chock full of chocolate which must only mean one thing... we're all set for the Badger*.

Tell your friends there are entries on the day for £20 but unfortunately they are not guaranteed a t-shirt until all of the runners have finished.  (We're sure you'll understand it's only fair that those who entered in advance have the pick of the t-shirt sizes first).  There is also a 2.5k Fun Run off at 10.15am, entries on the day £3.

If you have pre-entered, your name should be on the list here.

You can download the race day instructions here.  If you are intending to come along, please read them carefully as they include a very important safety notice.

Hope to see you soon

Alan and Nicky

Bacchus Marathon and Half

We have less than a week to go for the Bacchus Marathon and Half Marathon.  Once again we've put the order for the weather in especially early this year so here's hoping we're greeted with sunny smiles rather than storms.

The entry declarations are now ready:

Download the Bacchus Half Marathon entry list here.  Download Bacchus Half instructions here.

Download the Bacchus Full Marathon entry list here.  Download Bacchus Marathon instructions here.

Entries are now closed.  We will re-open entries again on race day.  Registration opens at 9am at Denbies Vineyard.  The price will remain the same as advance entries (£40 for the half marathon and £45 for the full marathon) however WE CANNOT GUARANTEE you will receive a t-shirt.  You will however receive all the other goodies such as a medal and hog roast ticket.

Hope to see you there.

Alan and Nicky

Squalls at the Spitfire

Just as you know to pack your wellies for Wimbledon or any of the summer concerts, the Spitfire 20 and Tempest 10 are building a reputation as a garden waterer.  The day started nice enough, overcast but dry as the day dawned.  The forecast rain sneaked in almost unexpectedly before unleashing the proverbial stair rods.
